Sue Marx Films was founded in Detroit in 1980 and has its roots deeply planted in the Detroit community. Documentary films are our specialty. Most of our stories are told by real people in their own words and for commercials, that means great testimonials! But, we also write scripts and produce films which are narrated, both on and off camera, by local talent as well as celebrities including Bob Hope, Paul Newman, Julie Harris, Hugh Downs, James Earl Jones, Jeff Daniels and Tim Allen. A large number of our productions have been broadcast on local, national and international television and are in worldwide distribution.

For many years, we’ve educated and motivated our audiences. We’ve made them laugh, cry, think, think twice, vote, be proud, understand issues and help those in need. In addition to winning an Academy Award in 1987 for Best Short Documentary, “Young at Heart,” we’ve won numerous awards for our work . Our marketing, political, educational and fundraising videos have hit the mark for every client we’ve worked with. Many of our DVD’s are seen by targeted audiences that our clients wish to reach such as businesses, business leaders, and legislative bodies. We also produce streaming videos for client websites.

As you will discover in our chronological film list, our productions represent a wide range of subjects and a variety of clients. Here are some examples. For General Motors and the National Bone-Marrow Transplant Link, we produced an award-winning educational film called “The New Normal” with inspiring stories told by people who have had successful bone-marrow transplants. For the Metro Detroit Convention and Visitors Bureau, we produced widely broadcast and Emmy Award-winning music videos and television spots promoting Metropolitan Detroit, Super Bowl XL, and other events. We’ve also written and produced a series of commercials for both The Skillman Foundation and The Taubman Company. For both the Detroit Zoo and the Cranbrook Educational Community, we’ve written and produced a series of educational and promotional films, many of which are narrated by celebrities with Michigan connections. The 10 films we produced for the Detroit Zoo are seen daily in the movie theatre at the zoo. We’ve covered topics such as competitive swimming in “Watermark”, teen-pregnancy in “Talkin’ About It”, and HIV/AIDS in “Tammy Bocomino Talks with Teens”, a live studio show with experts and teens for ABC/ WXYZ-TV. For Children’s Hospital of Michigan, we created “The Relaxation Station” and “Soothe Yourself” with a few simple exercises and magnificent scenes of nature and wildlife which help children and adults relax.  We’ve also produced numerous television spots, campaign films and TV programs for political candidates such as former Detroit Mayor Coleman A. Young and Mayor Dennis W. Archer.
That’s a small sample of what we’ve done.
